Where:

Let’s solve an example;
Find the damping stress when the coefficient of hydraulic press is 3, the temperature of application is 6, the absolute temperature is 8, the hydraulic pressure is 10 and the stress concentration factor is 14.

This implies that;

β = Coefficient of Hydraulic Press = 3
Tg = Temperature of Application = 6
T = Absolute Temperature = 8
P = Hydraulic Pressure = 10
K = Stress Concentration Factor =14

σb = (β(Tg – T) + P) / K
That is, σb = (3(6 – 8) + 10) / 14
σb = (3(-2) + 10) / 14
σb = (-6 + 10) / 14
Then, σb = 4 / 14
σb = 0.285

Therefore, the damping stress is 0.285 Pa.
