Let’s solve an example;
Find the mean free path when the melting point of solid is 12, the crystal lattice dimension is 24, the γ is 2 and the absolute temperature is 10.

This implies that;

Tm = Melting Point of Solid = 12
d = Crystal Lattice Dimension = 24
γ = 2
T = Absolute Temperature = 10

λph = 20Tmd / γ²T
λph = 20(12)(24) / (2)²(10)
So, λph = 5760 / (4)(10)
λph = 5760 / 40
λph = 144

Therefore, the mean free path is 144.
